Self-consious about my vagina…?
Okay, so I get this vaginal discharge stuff coming out of my vagina for about a week or two before I start my period– every time. It’s like thick and goopy and clear-white, but has no apparent smell… Whenever I masturbate, It’s kind of lumpy though and that makes me really self-consious, and I don’t know what to do because I already think my boyfriend doesn’t like my darker vagina. I keep it trimmed and clean it regularly, but again, I’m just really self-consious about it. What do I do?? Please help me!
Okay, first off, any man you allow near your vagina should be grateful and honored by the privilege. If he’s actually making critical remarks about it, take this as a serious warning that you are dating a jerk.
The vaginal discharge you describe is normal. It keeps your vagina clean and free from infection. You’ve already noticed that it is related to your cycle, and that’s absolutely standard. It’ll also change up at different times in your life. There’s more of it when you masturbate because when you’re turned on, your body says “Uh oh, there might be a penis in here shortly… let’s produce extra so that sex is comfortable and non-tearing”.
As far as the color, there’s really not a whole lot you can do about it. Most white women have kind of a mauve tint to their genitals… if you’re of african or some other darker heritage, you may be deeper into the purply-browns. But the color varies a lot from person to person. Learn to embrace it. It’s part of who you are, and nothing at all to be ashamed of.
